Report 14/10/16

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Oct 14, 2016 3:33 pm

Thank goodness the rains have eased and we are seeing days of sunshine and next weeks forecast is for much of the same, with the "possability" of <1-5ml mid week leading into a sunny weekend.

Unfortunatley the high rivers have flooded low lying camping areas but there are higher ground areas that are suitable for camping and launching boats with the rivers sitting close to the top of the banks.
Barnsy from the Kyalite pub posted pictures on there facebook page this week of suitable camping sites on the Wakool river at the telephone exchange reserve and on the Edward River at the Sand Pitt reserve on the Kyalite/Moulamein road(7ks from the pub) and on the Bankston reserve a further K down the road.
You can also get access to the Wakool river on the back Swan Hill to Kyalite road just pass the Genoe bridge.

Another place for people who want a bush setting to camp over the coming Melb Cup long weekend, is the Pental Island caravan park, which is situated right on the banks of the Murray river about 7ks from Swan Hill and has a boat ramp.

THE WAKOOL RIVER:
- A few yellas have been landed in the river in the Kyalite area on yabbies, shrimp and worms.
THE MERRAN CREEK:
- Like the Wakool a few good size yellas have been caught on bait.
THE MURRUMBIDGEE RIVER:
- Hearing of reports of good numbers of yellas being caught in the Balranald area over the past weeks on scrubbies and small yabbies.
THE MURRAY RIVER:
- Had a report this morning of several yellas up to 48cm being caught in less then a metre of water in the Murray Downs area this week, using shrimp and worms.
THE LODDON RIVER:
- Received a report early in the week of one angler landing 13 yellas in 2 hours near Kerang fishing with worms, the smallest was 43cm and the biggest was 63cm.
FLOOD LANE & IRRIGATION CHANNELS:
- Some anglers have been lucky enough to land a feed of yellas fishing at the 3rd Reedy Lake outlet and in the channels around Lake Charm and Kangaroo Lake using bait.

# The annual Red Fin Classic is being held at Lake Charm next weekend from the 21st to the 23rd Oct-contact the Kerang Football club for entries or enter at the lake on the friday.

## Hopefully our rivers will start falling over the coming weeks in readiness for the cod opening in 6 weeks time. One positive thing about the high murray is that the Locks between Euston and the SA border have been taken out, allowing full access to fish swimming back up river, including big cod.

Until Next Week-Happy Fishing JC.
