Report 2/2/17

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Feb 03, 2017 4:48 pm

Long weekend saw plenty of anglers about with plenty of fish caught in our rivers and lakes on bait and lures.

- Reports from Boundary Bend of small cod and yellas ranging from 37 to 47cm caught on bait and there have been plenty of bait and eating size yabbies caught.
- Four cod ranging from 51 to 59cm were caught at Piangil on grubs at the weekend.
- Darren Sinapius fished between Tooleybuc and Piangil and landed a 56-57-59-61cm cod on bait, fishing early in the mornings.
- A 70cm cod was picked by trolling lures opposite the Swan Hill boat ramp last weekend.
- Campers on Pental Island picked up for 4 cod between 60 and 65cm on bait and they got another estimated between 80-90cm close to the boat,it took one look at them took off and snapped the line.
Another angler landed a 60cm cod on a black/purple oargee lure near the floodway.
- Received reports from the murray/loddon junction at Murrabit of several cod ranging from 50 to 65cm taking bait and lures.

- Barnsy facebook page early in the week stated that small cod and legal yellas are taking worms in the Wakool River and legal yellas and the odd redfin have been picked up on bait in the Edward River along with plenty of yabbies.

HOT OFF THE PRESS-Just spoke to Barnsy and he said that anglers in the last 2 days have been catching good size cod up to 5lb and yellas up to 42cm on worms and yabbies in both the Edward and Wakool rivers. He said if you are going to boat the Edward you will need a small tinney and a chain saw!!

- Campers on the Edward fished long and hard over the weekend and finished up with 6 legal cod, with the biggest at 80cm-all caught on yabbies, shrimp and worms.

- The reports are still coming in of good numbers of cod up to 80cm being caught off the bank with bait and on trolled black/purple-black/green & black/red lures between Hay and Maude.
- Had a report of yellas up to 49cm have been caught near the bridge at Balranald on yabbies.

- Cod up to 70cm have been taking shallow diving lures like Oargee,Koolabung and Codger.

- It looks likes the reddies have started to fire up with some decent catches over the weekend, using minnows, small yabbies worms and bobbers. The odd silver perch have also been caught on scrubworms and they have been up to 39cm

- The redfin really came on the chew with one angler landing between 80-90 last wednesday evening,a fair portion of them were small. He was fishing with minnows on 2 hooks and was getting double rises most of the time.
Other anglers have had success with small yabbies, worms, vibes, blades and small stumpjumpers.

- Anglers fishing off the bank near the pontoon at the northern end have been bagging out on yellas using yabbies and scrubworms.Redfin numbers hav'nt been like Charm but there size certaintly makes up for it,with minnows being the favoured bait.
And dont forget there are big cod up to a metre in the lake-its just a matter of putting in the time to get onto them. The best areas in the past have been on the highway side and at the southern end of the lake, but with the man-made structures now in the lake,I would be trolling around them as well.

# This weeks photos are previous ones from Lake Charm with some good size reddies and a cod.
