Report 19/10/17

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Oct 20, 2017 1:18 pm

It looks like another fine weekend coming up with 23-25deg days forecast and slight winds-ideal to get out on our rivers or lakes.

With the cod opening 6 weeks away I am hearing of good cod numbers being caught and released in the last couple of weeks with 3 cod between 60 and 80cm caught on worms the other side of Tooleybuc, a 90+cm caught near the steps in town,a couple of anglers fishing near Jeans marina landed 6 just undersize cod between them and a bloke fishing from the bank at Caeli lane last thursday landed a 57cm and a 59cm on yabbies=so it starting to point towards another good cod season in this area like last year!!!

The Murray,Darling and Edward rivers are all experiencing rises at the moment.

- Ben Spicer spent last weekend at Hattah and finished up with 20 yellas between 32-38cm with all fish caught on shrimp.
- A bloke staying on a house boat at Jeans marina spent the weekend fishing from the bank and landed 7 yellas between 36 & 42cm and several undersize cod on crawlers and scrubbies.
- And a mate fished near the marina from a boat on wednesday and landed several cod and yellas on scrubworms.
- A bloke camped at Caeli lane landed a 57 and a 59cm cod and 3 yellas between 39 & 47cm fishing from the bank with scrubworms last thursday.

- The rise is expected at Pooncarrie this week which is expected to bring the yellas on the bite on bait and lures.

- The Genoe area is still producing good numbers of quality yellas on yabbies and worms.
- And its the same at Kyalite with plenty of yellas taking worms and yabby tails-Dave from Ballarat landed a 1.9kg and a 2.30kg and a pipped out Lou with a 2.2kg.
- Elijah and Bailey Ray were fishing with their Pa near the Wakool township during the week with Elijah catching a 5lb yella and Bailey a 4.5lb-well done boys mum and dad have taught you well!!.
- A few cod have been caught and released which is a good sign.

- Several good size yellas have been caught around Cha Sing and in the Billabong and there have been plenty caught on the Kyalite reserves along with a few cod, with most fish taking yabbies, shrimp and worms.

- There was plenty of boat activity on the river at the weekend with good numbers of yellas being caught below the Castle Donnington weir through to Swan Hill on bait.

- There have been reports of a few reddies getting caught and that should start to improve in the coming days with the hot weather.

This weeks photos:
- Ben Spicers Hattah yellas.
- Dave and Lou Kyalite yellas.
- Elijah & Bailey Rays yellas.
