Report 17/5/19

Post by Nicole Penfold » Mon May 20, 2019 11:30 am

We have just come back from Dartmouth and had some ok fishing. The lake rose 2 inches while we were there. Flatline and 2-4 colours of leadcore were the best early and late in the day fishing closer to the back and on the wind blown side. Most successful depths on the downrigger were 44 and 54 ft during the day. The fish are in great condition at the moment, especially the rainbows as they will be looking to spawn soon.

Best coloured tassies:
#88 gold zebra & #127 KG Special. (Still current colours) and #8 midnight & #32 gold bumblebee(discontinued).
Basically gold/black or pink/black were the best. We did catch a few rainbows on #126 Smashing pumpkins and #101 Priscilla (discontinued).

On the last day we did notice some bright green stink bugs and black/orange bugs in a few windlanes so might be worth trying those colours if there are more around.

A little bit more rain to get the streams pumping should see the fishing really good over the next month to 6 weeks.

In other reports:
John has been getting a few yellas out of Nillahcootie on worms. Haven’t heard of anyone going alright on lures.

Mul is still the place to go for a cod, a few guys have been going well on surface and trolling Spinnerbaits in the shallows.

Eildon is fishing ok at the moment and finally on the rise! More and more trout are being picked up on tassies and Bullet lures. Whites and pinks (not surprising) are the go and Redfin, roach and pearl widow coloured bullets claiming a few fish. The Redfin fishing has been good with most fish being picked up on bait in the trees. Best depth is between 18-26ft. Fishing in the open on schools has been tough with a few fish being picked up then the school shuts down. Make sure you take worms to keep the bite going.
