Report 7/3/19

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Mar 08, 2019 11:31 am

The long weekend is fast approaching and it’s looking like great weather!

Lake Eildon:
43.44% down 0.90% this week.
Eildon has been mediocre from reports the last fortnight with many anglers struggling to find any consistency. The Redfin are there and schooled but most are hard to tempt. Gulp minnows and ice jigs have had success when they are active. 8-12m has been a good depth to find a few fish. A few yellas have been picked up trolling around the steeper banks on ac invaders and crazy deeps. Haven’t talked to anyone chasing cod but we should start to see them become more active as we get into autumn.

Lake Nillahcootie:
36.57% down 1.74% this week
Nillah has been pretty good with most anglers landing a few yellas and a cod. On the weekend the fisheries were out on the lake and caught one angler with 2 undersized cod and others were caught using more than 2 rods, well done fisheries for catching these anglers. Trolling has still been very good on the cod with a lot of 35-50cm getting cod and a few in the legal size and above. I have had a couple of people coming in and telling me of a 1.2m cod caught on the weekend and has died not long after. Haven’t seen photos but make sure you the best and quickest job you can if you do hook a big cod. The yellas have been loving codgers and size 3 stumpers in red/black, gold and purple. 3-4m has been good early and 6m as the day gets on. Bank fishing with shrimp and worms has been great with a lot of smaller yellas and the occasional cod caught.

Mulwala is by far the best place to snag a cod with both good numbers and big fish being caught. A local last week had a great session trolling 9 cod for the morning to 61cm trolling oar-gees and Spinnerbaits, bardi grub colour hardbody and purple/white spinnerbait. Was fishing around the mid southern part of the lake.

Waranga has a blue green algae at the moment so please be careful if you do decide to fish the lake.

Buffalo and William hovell have been ok on the Redfin, mostly small fish caught on spinners and soft plastics off the bank. Would both be nice options for a drive over the long weekend.
