Report 23/10/15

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Oct 23, 2015 4:39 pm

Some great fishing comps on this weekend, mountain bay classic @ eildon, Hume classic and golden dollars at mulwala. Hopefully this report gives you the edge over the weekend.

Lake eildon: 54. 64%
Fishing: 6/10.
Still dropping at a fast rate, a percent a week doesn't sound like much but it is. The fishing has been ok on the Yellas with most fish being caught amongst the trees slow rolling plastics or on bait. Trollers using 30ft ac invaders and halco crazy deeps have had better success. Redfin action is mediocre; a few fish here a few fish there but no consistency. Trout have been good early and late in the day. White, pink or orange are the go.

Lake Nillahcootie: 54.25%
Fishing: 7/10.
Nillah is starting to go, but not like recent years. Bank fishing has been exceptional with baiters landing a lot of Yellas and Redfin on the humble worm. More active fishers are casting soft plastics and getting the better Redfin and the occasional yella. Trollers are struggling to find the Yellas with the small cod more inclined to hit the small hard bodies. If you do catch one send it back as quickly and safely as possible.

Broken river: low
Fishing: 6/10.
The broken is very low at the moment and making a lot of spots unfishable. Bait fishing has been best using worms and shrimp on the Yellas. Small size 3 stumpys in orange/green/black are the best lure for the conditions.

Lake Hume: 44.92%
Fishing:7/10.
Hume hosts the annual classic this weekend. The trout action has been good with more fish being caught but the quality is down a bit, but there still there. Use silver or orange tassies. The Yellas have been ok with trolling being the best method or bait fishing off the points. Redfin are around with small silver plastics casted of bobbed around trees getting the fish. We caught 4 carp on lures last weekend, one on a blade, one on plastics, one on a stumpy and the other on a rapala. Not desirable but great fun on light gear.

Have a great weekend everyone!
