Report 29/1/16

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Jan 29, 2016 4:33 pm

With a bit of rain around the traps the weekend should be good for native fishing. Any rise in a river is good and turn the fish on.

Lake eildon: 43.72%
Fishing: 6/10
As usual the cod have been consistent with a few being landed thought the day. The new storm arashi has been claiming a few of them. These lures dive deep hitting 25ft + and in the perch pattern it's dynamite on the cod. A bit of Redfin action around big river of recent with a few 2lb fish being landed on worms. Yellas are still being picked up amongst the trees on the gulping technique.

Hume dam: 37.55%
Fishing: 5/10.
Hume is on the turn with the lake rising 0.10%, it's not much but promising if it continues. Hopefully the Redfin come out and play again. Anglers are finding the schools but are struggling to temp the fish, sometimes not even taking a worm. The Yellas have dropped off a bit but if the rise continues they will kick back into gear.

Lake Nillahcootie: 40.06%
Fishing: 6/10.
Nillah is still going ok, a lot of Yellas and small cod have been getting caught on the troll. Pink/purple-red/black still the best colours. Bait fishers amongst the trees have been going well with small yabbies and worms with some of the bigger Yellas coming out to play.

Mulwala: 97.45%
Fishing: 8/10.
Mul is going well with all forms of fishing getting them. Surface in the shallows has been productive, not as many big ones but the best fun. Casting and trolling spinnerbaits in 2-3m has been the go, still a lot of small ones but a few big bruisers are having a crack. Bait fishing around bundalong and the glades has been good with bardis and cheese.

Lake Dartmouth: 46.83%
Fishing: 8.5/10
Darts going great guns at the moment, I had the pleasure of fishing it for a couple of days. We landed 27 fish and dropped heaps. Leadcore around 4 colours, downrigger between 24-44ft were the best methods. Most consistent colours were bleeding frog, corroboree frog, smashing pumpkins and red nose bomber yellow winger. Biggest was a 52cm brown trout around 3.25lbs which David currie caught.

Hopefully the rain passes and the weekend is prime for fishing.
