Report 17/2/17

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Feb 17, 2017 3:30 pm

Some hot weather, some cold changes but the fishing has stayed consistent around the area. The Redfin fishing is in full swing and the cod are playing the game too.

Lake Nillahcootie:
93.34% down 1.03% this week.
Fishing: 6.5/10.
Nillah has been a bit quieter compared to recent months. The lake has stayed around the same percentage since opening and will fish better if we get it down under 80% it allows anglers to fish the river beds and access some drop offs that are in 30ft of water at the moment. The yellas have been consistent for bait fishers fishing around the weed edges and the small dead trees. Worms and yabbies the best bait. Trollers are getting a few (2-5) but not the greatest of numbers or size. Codgers, ac's and stumpys in the usual pink/purple, red/black, gold/black and green/orange. Casters are putting in the yards and seem to be finding more of the legal fish. Spinnerbaits the go to lure. Anglers off the bank are having to move around to find the right area where fish are holding. Yabbies for cod and shrimp and worms for the yellas. Moving your baits in every few min has also helped anglers catch more fish.

Lake Eildon:
73.97% down 1.12% this week.
Fishing: 8.5/10.
Well haven't the reddies been up and about! Many local anglers have ventured over to the Delatite arm recently with cricket scores of fish being caught. Worms and yabbies have been the go for the bait fishers. Tree hopping in 12-24ft has been best from reports and trolling in this depth also. The trollers have been running halco's, 50mm ac invaders, size 3 stumpys and austackle wobblers and sakanas with good success. White, red and orange are good colours. For the casters you can't go past blades at the moment. One local angler landed over 100 fish with one going 2.5lb all on a 60mm 1/2oz s blade casting some banks. The yellas have also been around the Redfin and most fishos are tangling with a few while chasing the Redfin. The cod fishing has been ok with casting bigger spinnerbaits getting some of the bigger specimens. One angler caught a big one off the bank using a yabbie but broke him off close to the bank.

Lake Hume:
81.63% down 1.13% this week.
Fishing: 8/10.
Hume is fishing very much the same as Eildon. Same methods and all. The bulk of the Redfin have been caught either around Huon or bowna areas. A lot of small ones around but there have been some 40+cm fish being caught while plowing through the smaller fish. Ice jigs and bobbers have also been working well when the fish are underneath you with reports of 10+ fish following the fish that has been caught there.

Lake Mulwala:
97.41% down 2.15% this week
Fishing: 7.5/10.
We had the pleasure of fishing the freshwater masters over the weekend. We landed 3 legals (66,59,55) and plenty of smaller cod. We worked hard and had a lot of hits on the drop. We nutted it out and caught most our fish on spinnerbaits casting into the shallows or weed edges and hopped them down the edge of river beds, channels and lagoons. Red/chart/black and orange/black were the best colours and Luke caught his 66cm on a 70mm deep diver over the drop offs. We didn't have any action on the surface but many other local anglers have had great success on pompadours, wakebaits and the codger surface lure. Some locals have been bait fishing around bundalong and getting a lot of undersize on scrubbies and cheese with the better fish taking yabbies.

Waranga continues to produce a lot of small Redfin but some lucky anglers are striking some schools of 30-40cm fish and the occasional yella. Yabbies and shrimp are the go targeting the bigger fish. Bobbing 40-60mm blades have also claimed a few of the bigger fish while baitfishing.

So if you want a feed of reddies there is no better time than now to get amongst them!
