Report 12/11/15

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Nov 20, 2015 3:02 pm

Apologies, if you missed our report the last week, I have been away but back into it now. The weather has been a bit up and down this week, but there have been some good little windows of opportunity if you have been ready to get out when conditions have been good (even if it’s not what the bureau predicted!).

The good news for us on the Mornington Peninsula is that the snapper fishing has started to fire much closer to home with some nice schools of fish moving around off the Rye wreck, and at some of the closer snapper ground around Dromana.

With that said there have also been bunch of fish being taken from the fairway grounds from Mt Martha through Mornington and Mt Eliza. Better still is that we have started to see some really good bites through the afternoon and evening – this is my favourite period of the snapper season, dusk bites and a meal on the water, glorious!

In other news, some good gummy shark on the go being taken both from the Sth Channel and even out on the mud, by those fishing for snapper, deep off rye. The fish on the channel have definitely been bigger with fish up to 25kg this week. Most of the mud gummies have been less than 8kg.

For the land-based angler, we saw good garfish at Rosebud this week. Which is great as it has been a lean 12 months on the gars. Also squid have continued to fire off the piers, although they seem to be getting less attention at the moment, now that snapper season is in full swing.
