Report 20/1/17

There have been plenty of tuna and kingfish cruising around in fairly shallow water, but they've been difficult to catch. Not sure why; perhaps it's what they're feeding on. Some boats have managed to do really well one day but bomb out the next.

There are lots of lots of undersize snapper driving people mad, but at least they're fun. Anglers fishing at first light and in the late evening seem to have been getting the better fish.

There are plenty of whiting about in all the normal places from Black Nose right through to North Shore.

People fishing off Bridgewater are still catching plenty of flathead, but that's a long trip round and you have to be careful with the weather.

The Fitzroy River isn't fishing too badly. There have been a few school mulloway caught recently on IQF pillies, and it's worth a try there for bream as well.

There haven't been been many reports from the surf, but land-based guys fishing from the Breakwater have been picking up a few whiting and squid, plus lots of small snapper. I haven't heard any reports of kings off the Breakwater but anglers are still catching occasional big snapper up to 6kg.
