Title: Yellowfin Tuna and Albacore have arrived at the shelf off Merimbula right on time for the Merimbula Yellowfin Open Tournament.

With estimates for good weather and fine Yellowfin to 70kg and Albacore being taken at the shelf already, the Tournament certainly looks to be on track for a very successful weekend. For further details contact Robert Wood: 0413 333 598. Lots of prizes are available for entrants all thanks to the Clubs sponsors from both local and interstate business. This year the major Prize is $3,000 cash for the Heaviest Yellowfin Tuna - line class - caught over the duration of the Tournament. There are also 16 other categories, including those for Ladies and Juniors up for grabs.

For bottom bouncers this is the Snapper season with quality fish now all along our local reefs. For those able to make an early start, soft plastics near the headlands is the trick with bait and burley in deeper waters beside the reefs when the sun is shining. Morwong remain on the bite, and schools of voracious couta are still about. Ocean Flathead can be taken well off Long Point and remain on the chew at the usual spots off Bithrys, White Rock, Bournda Island and Tura Headland.

At the Merimbula Fishing Platform Australian Salmon and Tailor continue to provide sport for locals and visitors alike! Best time is early morning, before the southerly winds become too strong.

Bega River has excelled with lots of Dusky Flathead – best from fairly shallow waters helped by a slight chop on the surface. Soft plastics are the way to go. Dusky Flathead as well as Trevally, Tailor & Bream can be found in all our estuaries as the waters have not yet cooled too much. Soft plastics or burley and pilchards are the way to go.
