Report 18/8/17

Game fishing enthusiasts have not been able to emulate commercial long-liners Tuna catches off Eden. Reports to hand suggest some good Tuna further north near Monatgue Island. All areas are alive with Dolphins and Whales have been sighted frolicking near Bournda Island and Tura Headland, possibly early members of this year’s southerly migration.

Snapper are about in large schools off White Rock, Long Point, Haycock and Horseshoe Reefs. With strong warm currents from the north, anchoring and heavy sinkers is the norm. Use a burley bomb to bring the fish to the boat. Some exceptional size Morwong have been reported off Eden as well. With the strong current pilchard baits are very effective. Flathead remain patchy with catches reported all along the coast from the Horsehoe Reef area to north of Tathra. Gummy Shark have responded during the full moon with fresh Salmon a great bait. Both Salmon and Tailor respond to Halco flashers off the rocks. Beach Salmon are patchy, best areas North Tura and Main Beach.

We have reports of great catches in the river mouth areas for the Bega River and Merimbula and Pambula Lakes. Most active at present are Tailor. Warmer waters can be found on the run-in near the estuaries entrances. This brings in some large Tailor and it is the time for Trevally and Bream over the shallows as well as some great Dusky Flathead. Nippers without a sinker or soft plastics will get results.
