Report 23/10/17

UPDATE: The Merimbula Top Lake has been restricted to catch and release only due to Sewerage leak earlier this week.

Ocean waters are warming and Ocean Flathead are coming back on the chew. Try all the usual Flathead marks off Tura Beach, Bournda, White Rock, Kianinny and Bithry Inlet. Depths of 18 to 25 fathoms give results. Snapper and Morwong continue to respond to both bait and soft plastics along our local reefs off Boyd’s Tower near Eden as well as the usual marks at Haycock, and Long Point near Merimbula and White Rock out of Kianinny.

A nice sized King Fish was caught off Tura Headlands on Sunday by a very happy angler. Good Squid have returned to the Merimbula Fishing Platform and best results from orange coloured jigs at evening.

Tailor together with some Bream, Trevally and Dusky Flathead are active in the Merimbula Lake and Luderick are begining to school. At Pambula Lake some very large Tailor are about. Trolling in the Broadwater and across the deeper holes in the cross channel using silver lures brings the best results. Schools of Australian Salmon are also active in the Broadwater and down river to the entrance. Fishing the beaches can bring good results for Salmon try Aslings Beach, Haycock and Tura Beach near Bournda Island. Best bait remains whole Pilchard set on a gang hook. Remember to also use a popper which often picks up the larger fish.

At Mogareeka with the Bega River closed angling is excellent as fish congregate close to ocean to where there is some salt water soakage. The fish are also keeping to the deeper holes whenever they can.

Unfortunately mother nature continued to blow which hindered a lot of fishing reports coming through.
