Report 14/5/17

It looks like some more good weather over the next couple of days before another stronger southerly hits again just in time for the weekend. But who knows this could push back a little and we could be in for a good one come Saturday, Sunday! None the less there will be somewhere you can get out of it if it turns to rubbish. The rain from last week had very little impact on the river and the water colour has hardly changed, so once the big bright full moon moves on a bit things should get back to normal and where you were catching fish a couple of weeks back should once again be worth a try. I have no doubt this big bright light in the sky has an effect on fish...and some humans! It has the power to affect the tides so why not fish? It might just be something to keep an eye on in future fishing trips and see whether it affects your spots. One other thing that might affect your chances in the river is the recent visitor. It seems a seal has once again taken up residence in our river and has been seen anywhere from the ferry to up past the Nowra Bridge. It’s not an uncommon occurrence but a frustrating one for many anglers as they watch this guy frolicking around in front of them putting down the fishing!

So the river has died off a little this past week and a half but there are still guys out there catching some fish. The majority of flathead are small but I have talked to a couple of guys bagging some fish up around 55-60cm but more down towards the canal and up into Shoalhaven Heads. It looks as though the old favourites in the Squidgies are doing the job. Gary Glitter, Bloodworm and Red Rum in the wrigglers are among the favourites. One thing most fisho’s are complaining of are the amount of little chopper tailor in the river. These little blighters are attacking soft plastics and baits like a flock of seagulls on a hot chip! Good for business i suppose ;-)

The bream that were down around the river mouth about a month ago have pushed up stream now and are being caught around Broughten Creek and up around Terara and the bridge, if you can get your lure through those tailor that is.

Some good EP’s are still being caught and should go right through now until spring when they start to head back up stream. Remember we are in the closed season for these guys and bass so any caught “accidentally” should be returned to the water ASAP.

Word from the jewie fisho's is that there are still plenty around! The awesome season we are having is continuing. Probably why sammy the seal is hanging around. The bait fisho's are still holding their own over the lure fisho's catching plenty.

Good luck if your heading out over the next couple of days, and lets see some pics if you are.
