At the moment there are a few fish biting around the local waters. In the river blackfish, jewies and a few nice bream are showing up in the downstream sections of the river while upstream around the bridge and the showground there are still plenty of estuary perch being caught on blades and soft plastic lures. There are plenty of new lures in the way of soft plastics coming in-store over the next few weeks so make sure you come in and check them out.

If you’re a rock fisho it’s the right time of the year to be hitting the stones, rat kings, drummer, groper and some nice winter bream have all been on the chew when conditions are right and safe! The good thing about this time of the year is the westerly winds keep the sea reasonably flat and safe and allow certain ledges to be fished that couldn’t usually be. Remember to keep it safe though and if you have any doubts there is always another day.

Reports from offshore are far and few between at the moment but hopefully we will get some from last weekend with a gap in the weather and a opportunity for guys to get their boats out and hit the water. There were some reports from during the week of big schools of rat kings around The Banks. So if there isn’t much happening elsewhere and you want to have some fun try heading there and tracking these guys down. They are great fun on the light tackle but remember there is a minimum size limit of 65cm so do the right thing and throw back the little guys.

There have also been some good sand flattys on the local grounds off Shoalhaven heads and Currarong so if you’re heading out to catch a feed try these spots, there’s not too much better fish to eat than these guys and when they are bitting you can usually get a feed pretty quickly.
