Report 2/12/16

Post by subeditor » Fri Dec 02, 2016 3:05 pm

Hey Fisho’s...It’s has been a little while since we’ve done an up to date fishing report on which we do apologise for, but it’s just been so dam busy with Christmas coming up we haven’t had time to scratch ourselves....unpacking boxes and stocking shelves is taking the best part of our day. We have so much stock in this year with heaps of new lines of lures for all species and some great bargains on rods, reels and all things fishing in our current catalogue, so come on in and check us out I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

Now let’s get into the fishing!

Well what can I say but Yay! Finally the fishing has really hotted up over the past few weeks from the estuaries to the offshore is great to see some quality fish showing up. In St Georges Basin there has been some awesome Flatties being caught and the two recent Flathead comps have been testament to that. The whiting have fired up on the flats and are smashing the surface walkers and poppers with gusto. One lure that is working well for the whiting is actually on the cheaper end of the scale which doesn’t happen that often. The Saku poppers and surface walkers, they have some great colours, have a great action are a good weight to throw and at $9.95 each or 3 for $20 are a pretty good option, especially when those big choppers move in on the action. This weekend the Basin is hosting the grand final of the ABT series so it’s going to be a pretty busy one down there with boats capable of doing 100+ kms/hr zipping around in search of their bag of bream. It should be a pretty good spectacle though as Australia’s best bream fisho’s battle it out for the title of number one!
Kingfish! Kingfish! Kingfish!

It’s Kingfish time! These arm stretching, tackle destroying, torpedo shaped hoodlums are on the chew and have been now for a couple of weeks. The usual haunts of JB, under the cliffs of the Beecroft Peninsula and out around The Shallows and The Banks are all producing quality fish. Deep trolled, drifted or down rigged live baits are accounting for the larger fish; there has however been a few busting up on the surface taking the occasional popper or stick bait. The majority of fish we see can be handled on your 50lb gear but for those bigger fish in the 20kg plus range the 80lb locked up drag tackle really is a must, as long as you can stay on your feet! We have a massive range of lures to accommodate the kings with stickbaits and poppers galore.
Bass! Bass! Bass!

It’s also Bass time! Although these guys are completely on the other end of the scale size wise to the kingfish they are still one awesome fish to catch and pound for pound fight pretty dam hard. The Cicadas are starting to sing on the odd day and with this hot weather the fish will be out and about tuned into the surface awaiting an easy feed landing on the surface. We have really pumped up our Bass range of lures this season with spinner baits, surface lures and plenty of divers in deep and shallow. The River from the Animal Park upstream is holding good numbers still and it seems as though a lot of the bigger fish are hanging in the brackish waters as long as possible before they make their journey upstream to the fresh, probably due to the amount of prawns in the river. Much like us humans, you don’t leave from a free feed do you? All you can eat smorgasbord! Prawns Cicadas, moths and flying ant’s....mmmm, sounds delicious!

Remember to come in and check out the great bargains in our Christmas catalogue...we have some great deals on rods and reels, prawning gear, lures and plenty of freebies so make sure you get in and check it out!

Enjoy the hot weather guys and gals, stay safe, be good and keep an eye out on our page and Instagram for more great Christmas bargains!
