Report 24/3/16

Bream:
Both black and yellowfin bream have fired up during the week with the strong winds and extremely high tides. Fish have been pushing right up into the normally inaccessible areas feeding on anything they can find. Plenty of fish have been taken in both top and bottom lakes using O.S.P Bent Minnows, Jackal Chubbies and most crank style lures. The fish have also been taking prawns fished on light lines and minimum weight.
The fish have also been sitting in the deeper water around 5-10ft and have been smacking Zman 2.5inch Grubz in Watermelon Red Flake and Squidgy 100mm Wrigglers in Wasabi. The fish have also been taking fresh bass yabbies.

Flathead:
The flatties have begun to bite again as the boating activity has quietened down. Fish have been sitting along drop offs and have been feeding on the few prawns that have entered the system this year. The flatties have mainly been taken on the old faithful flattie lures like Squidgy 70mm fish in Black and Gold and Gary Glitter, Berkley Gulp 3” Pumpkin Seed grubs and Zman 3” minnows. Most the fish are around 35-50cm but the odd fish over 60cm has been taken.

Others:
A few nice Estuary perch have been taken while fishing for bream around snags in the upper reaches of the lake, mostly on weightless plastics and small surface stick baits. Tailor to 45cm sitting along most of the deep drop offs around the lake. Trolling small 20-30g metal lures around will usually produce a few of these toothy critters. Plenty of silver trevally being taken off known spots including the Fisheries Jetty and the fishing platforms along the bike track.

No offshore action this week due to the large ground swells and very few have been attempting to hit the surf gutters.
