Report 2/6/16

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Jun 03, 2016 10:09 am

Another quiet week offshore with some horrible weather preventing any launchings or bar crossings.
On the beaches there have been plenty of salmon turning up in the gutters at high tide. Spinning metals and large soft plastic fish and shad style lures has been the best method.

There have been a few tailor, trevally and salmon in both harbours at Bastion. The fish have been responding well to most small minnow and prawn style plastics including Gulp 3” minnows in Pumpkinseed and squidgy prawns in Bloodworm.

There have been a few bream in the main channel with most being taken fishing fresh prawns fished around most of the jetties and platforms. Fish have been ranging from 28-35cm with a few bigger ones kicking around also.

There are still some very large tailor out along the red markers at the mouth of Harrison’s Channel. The fish have been taken mainly whilst trolling metal lures and small X rap divers along the drop off. There were also reports of a school of salmon kicking around here too.

Out in the deeper water off John Bull (12-18ft) there have been some good bream taking vibes and fresh prawns. Vibes that are black and gold in colour have been working best.

The bream have also been schooling up in the 12-15ft mark at Goodwin Sands. Sounding around and fishing Squidgy 100mm Wrigglers and Zman 2.5” Grubz rigged on 1/12th- 1/24th sized jig heads with small hops and twitches has been the best method.

In the top lake there have been some good bream and also the odd flathead turning up along the rock walls in the second narrows. Sitting out deeper off these walls and hopping small vibes down the face of the drop off has been the best way to get onto the fish.

Palmers Bank has also produced a few fish with some good fish falling to fresh Bass yabbies and OSP Dunks fished on the back of the bank. A few better eating sized flatties have also been biting up here with the majority taken on small vibes.
