Report 8/7/16

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Jul 15, 2016 3:05 pm

Southern Blue Fin tuna have turned up wide off Gabo this week. The fish have been found in a warm pocket of water pushed way down south. Checking charts in preparation has been the way to find the fish and trolling skirts and divers has been getting the bites. Cubing has also produced fish.

Some half decent weather has also seen a few anglers hit up the sharks around Gabo Island. Some big school sharks have been delighting anglers fishing on the bottom while a few small makos have been sited and hooked by drifting boats. A few big gummies have also been taken when bottom bouncing.

The salmon have been a bit patchy with schools entering gutters on high tide for only several minutes before leaving again. Spinning metals has been the best way so you can cover many gutters quickly to find a school of fish.

The harbour at the break wall has been producing plenty of average sized silver trevally for both lure and bait fisherman. Best bait has been peeled prawn and salted blue bait, and the best lures have been squidgy 80mm wrigglers and Zman Slim SwimZ.

Behind the islands has been producing a range of bread and butter species with bream, whiting, luderick, flathead, trevally and even flounder caught. Fresh bass yabbies have been smashing these fish.

The bream have picked back up at Goodwin Sands again with plenty of fish taking a liking to a range of vibes. ZX 40s, Stiffy Devil Fish and River2Sea Glassie vibes have been stand outs but most will work.

Allen’s Head and Fair Haven have had some bream and flatties sitting off the edges. Bait fishing with bass yabbies and prawns has been the best bait. Lures have also been working with Gulp Shrimps taking a few fish.

The top lake is producing a few fish in the dirty water. Dead Finish and Palmers Bank have been the most productive spots with some good fish being taken on soft plastics and hard bodies.

Just a tail end to bowans report this week - Hows this for a beast of a tailor. Taken today up into about 50cm of water on a Jackal Chubby. Fish went 61 tip. And thats why this fella is doing our fishing report your a star Bowan, love your work. And no action hero here (see attached photo).
