Report 16/7/16

Not too much offshore action with the big seas this week. The fishing should pick back up again once the swell allows boats to head out.
The beach has been going alright with a few good gummies and school sharks taken during the day on fresh salmon fillets cast out to the back of the gutters on the incoming tide.

Salmon have also been in the gutters in good numbers despite the less than average conditions. As always the fish have been responding well the metal slugs. 20-30g metals have been taking most fish.

Bream and a few flathead have been in Coul’s inlet with plenty of fish in the 30-38cm bracket being taken on fresh prawns.
Some large tailor have been taken out off John Bull and Tee Tree Point. Trolling small diving minnows have been getting hammered.
Bream and flathead have been sitting out deep off Goodwin Sands but have been a bit shut down since the rain. Persisting with black or purple coloured vibes has produced a few fish.

The best action has been over near Allen’s Head with bream, tailor and flathead all being taken in 3-4m of water. 80mm squidgy wrigglers have been the best producers.

Dorren Bight has held a few bream and tailor once schools have been found with the help of a sounder.

Most edges in the bottom lake have been producing a few good runs of some very solid bream. Fishing small grub style plastics on 1/12- 1/24th jig heads have been smashing the fish. Small diving minnows have also been red hot one these fish.

Fair Haven, Bakers Bight, Little River, Spotted Dog and Kingfisher Point have all had some great bait fishing. Bass yabbies, fresh prawns and beach worms (if you can catch the worms) have all been smashing bream, flathead, tailor, luderick, and small whiting around these areas.
