Report 1/2/17

Some good action offshore last week. Plenty of shark species moving along the coast following bait fish. Hammerheads, bronze whalers and makos all making an appearance. Most of the action has been coming from in close to the breakers between Gabo and Talaberga. Try using whole barracoota for bait and keep the baits mid water.

Gummies and school sharks around the 90ft mark off Gabo. Try using salted pilchard. The little ones are a nuisance but keep trying as the big ones are there.

Flathead are in some great numbers too. 30m behind Talaberga or 50m straight out off Bastion the best areas. Try to use fresh baits but the old faithful pilchard and squid combo has also been doing well.

Salmon schools still on the beaches. Moving between gutters on an incoming tide has been a good way to find a few fish. Spinning metal lures or using fresh pilchards has been the way to go.

Whiting and luderick in Harrisons Channel. Fresh yabbies or sand worm thrown around the shallow drop offs or edges has produced some great fish. Plenty of whiting willing to whack surface lures down there too.

Goodwin Sands producing some good bream and whiting on hard bodied divers and surface lures. Hit the edges of the flat when it's glassed then venture up into the shallows once the wind starts pushing.

Flathead all around the lake. Try fishing along drop offs where plenty of bait is holding. The flathead seem to be concentrated near the bait. Run natural coloured soft plastics and if they don't work try something different like a brightly coloured vibes.

The bream in the top lake have been holding on the slightly deeper flats. Try running hardbodies and soft plastics in about 4ft of water to get the fish.
Mulloway have been around in the upper reaches but tempting one or keeping it on the hook has been a challenge. Live tailor has been the best bait to get the runs.
