Report 14/2/18

Post by Nicole Penfold » Wed Feb 14, 2018 3:11 pm

This past week we saw plenty of people fishing and especially with the long weekend plenty of anglers went in search of a fish. The kingfish bite was very good and should only improve in the next 4 weeks. The whiting fishing was hit and miss with plenty of smaller fish around but lots of moves were needed to find some bigger models worth filleting. The Marlin Fishing slowed down as the current has picked up on the south coast but this did happen last year and with a bit of luck the fishing will improve.

Port Phillip Bay
Jason on Magnet charters has had a great few weeks fishing and got into some really nice fish for his customers on the long weekend. Jason has been doing well on the calamari and pinkie snapper of an afternoon but when the conditions are right jason said the Kingfish in and around the heads is as good as ever. With multiple fish over and around the magic metre mark and plenty of fish at the 80cm mark now is certainly a great time to be chasing the Victorian kingfish near the heads of Port Phillip Bay.

It turns out Korey Krestas is a chip off the old block.
Last weekend he went fishing off Portesa pier with his dad Ange and his cousin.
Obviously it was a very proud moment for his dad seeing Korey catch his first squid.

Westernport
Well done Andrew Moffat and Ant Pratt on a couple local Mako sharks that both fell victim to different FJG Berley trails. What a cracking season for Makos it's been so far.

Welshpool
Great customer Ben Symonds and Ben Barret caught some awesome kingfish this morning with 8 fish over metre and plenty more fish landed and released. Ben has worked very hard for these fish and we couldn’t be happier for him.

Port Fairy
Scott Gray has been getting into some really solid Tuna and kingfish whilst fishing out of Port Fairy. Scott has been casting stickbaits into feeding schools of tuna and catching some great bluefin. The kingfish have been a little harder top catch so scott has been spearing some and catching the odd fish on rod and reel.

East Gippsland
Mark Sullivan and his mates headed away for the long weekend in search of a few kingfish. The boys were not disappointed with three days of great weather and the kingfish biting their heads of the boys had an awesome weekend. Mark said he caught between 5-15 fish each day and also had a good session on topwater one morning where they were mowing down stickbaits and poppers. Fishing from 7 - 12kg were the flavour of the trip and he had the area to himself for two days.
