This weekend may well be the first break of true Spring weather that we have seen. With forecasts putting the temp in the early 20’s along with some nice sunshine, I am optimistic that a few more anglers will dust off the fishing gear and think about their first fish for the new season.

So first up, like the barrel tuna in western victoria, the big calamari just keep going on and on. Terrific to see some land based anglers get amongst the action this week too with both Portsea Pier and Flinders pier producing some quality squid for the keen angler.

Dan Borin had a ripping session at Portsea catching this absolute hooter of a squid. A genuine breeder, the type we just love to see coming from these waters. Dan was casting Harimitsu jigs in IS and OR colours catching a total number of 7 squid.
Staff Gav Fallon has had a few quality sessions while fishing off Safety Beach and the beds around the point at Mt Martha. They have regularly been bagging out with plenty of good sized squid, like the one pictured below, mixed into the bags.
Ryan Wells headed down to Flinders Pier this week as was justly rewarded with some very nice squid. Although the pic is a bit blurry due to the darkness, you can still see that there were some nice breeders amongst his catch.
In some other land based action, staff Jules and mate Trent North hit Balcombe Creek again this week. Although they only managed small bream they did catch some large mullet and a few juvenile salmon. Still pretty good afternoon fun on plastics.
