An exciting week in fishing with some exceptional and slightly rare fish taken. Of course I am talking about the horse size mulloway taken in Westernport. And while we know that jewies inhabit both our bays, to see fish of such awesome proportions is still pretty special.

Reece Kennedy and mate AJ had a ripping Saturday night fishing in Westernport. In a memorable evening session the boys managed to put a 59.83lb mulloway on the deck. Any fish of this size is a genuine trophy and the boys should be pretty pleased with their efforts!

Of course, not to be out done, Shaun from Think Big Charters (0423 696 061) and Warren Carter also decided to have a crack at the mulloway. Fishing somewhere, presumably in south east westernport, the boys managed to hook and land a 31kg (close to 70lb) jewie. In what Shaun reported as an epic battle the boys were absolutely stoked (and amazed) to put this once in a life-time fish in the boat. A big congrats from all of us here at the shop – a supreme effort from a couple of gurus of the ‘port.

And then there were the snapper….let the stories begin!
Jarrod Day from Compleat Angler HO headed out this week with local fishing charter operator Matt Boultin from Fish On Charters for a bit of R&D. The boys were testing some prototype fishing tackle and put some lovely snapper in the boat. Thought the fishing was a little tough, they found small patches of fish willing to feed out from Frankston in 16 and 20 meters of water. Pilchards were the top bait on first light.

Last weekend was certainly a top time to be on Port Phillip Bay. Both Saturday and Sunday mornings were glorious and the fish played the game. Mitch Bertachini from Online Fishing Charters (0407 879 869) put his clients onto some nice reds to 5kgs in 17 meters of water off Seaford. Silver whiting was the top bait.
Matt Cini from Reel Time Fishing Charters (0438 302 093) has also been getting into the Reds out from Carrum. This weekend the fish catches have been scattered but Matt reports the bite been getting better. Today they managed some nice fish out wide.

Shaun Furtiere from Think Big Charters is having a blast in Western Port at the moment. This weekend he has put his clients onto some cracking snapper from Corinella, North arm and Top end channels. Fresh calamari has been the top bait.

Out of town, we have been hearing some fantastic reports from Lake Tyers where the big flathead are going off. Anglers are reporting heaps of activity with regular fish between 70cm -110cm.
