Down on the peninsula you have every reason to be out fishing too with plenty of kings still being taken and whiting reports running hot right along the length of the southern peninsula. In fact I am almost surprised at the moment when someone comes in saying they are struggling on the whiting! They seem to be everywhere and in pretty good sizes!

Not only that, April 1st will herald a significant change in Port Phillip Bay with many of the current commercial netting licenses being bought back by the government. One would think that this will have a huge impact on species such as king George whiting and their availability for everyday anglers.

In other news there have been some big captures of rat kings at the moment – arguably some of the best action for the year on these smaller fish!

Ben Broomfield and Matt Luscombe managed to get a few in Benny’s boat this week near Flinders. The boys got them trolling and on jigs. Ben was pretty happy as these were his first kings in his own boat!

The charter operators too have been leading the way with some big captures of school kingfish. Our mate Baz Gorman from Southern Sport and Game Fishing Charters (0419 851 881) was at it again this week getting a few different groups of customers onto kingies as well as other species including Nannygai, whiting, squid and even a beautiful blue devil fish.
