The fishing has been steady on the squid lately with good catches coming in across both ports. Tyabb bank has been a hot spot in Westernport lately and of course Mt Martha in Port Phillip! Snapper are showing themselves more of late in the deeper sections of Port Phillip down south with some ripper catches coming in at up to 8kg! Whiting have been abundant around the southern end of Port Phillip to with some great catches of up to 37cm being reported.

The Tuna are starting to wake up this week and with the holiday weekend coming, we are expecting some great things to come from Portland and Port Fairy with stacks of bait and school Tuna on the bite. With great weather forecast this weekend, get out there and have a crack!

Port Phillip Bay
Port Phillip has been fishing very well lately with cracking fish coming in again as Autumn rolls on. Whiting have been making a big mark in the bay out off the southern end with most fish being caught in shallow around 4-6 m of water and on pippies or fresh calamari. Hot spots again have been Sunnyside beach Mornington

Squid have been very popular of late and the size is certainly improving with most common catches between 15-20cm and the occasional around 30cm. Hot spots have been Sunnyside beach Mornington.

Snapper however have been creating quite a stir of late as some crackers have been pulled in around the 7-8 kg mark. Most common catches have been around 3-4kg and around 19-21 m off Mornington have been the hot spots! Fresh bait is absolutely key!
Phil and his wife caught a cracking late season snapper out of Mornington in 19m, 7.4kg.
Western Port
Westernport has been firing well up in the top end of late with a good array of gummies and snapper being caught.
Tyabb bank has been a killer spot for squid lately with most common catches around the 35-40cm mark and people having no trouble getting their bag. White glow jigs and natural blues have been key.

Snapper up the top end of the bay have been floating around for the keen angler of late. The ideal way to get it done is to mark some fish on good structure at the ends of channels and fish right through the low change. Fresh Whiting has been a gun bait but you can never go past a good squid ring!

Whiting have been a little tough this week but have still been coming in slowly. Most common catches have been down toward Tankerton and Tyabb bank with fish coming in on pipi baits presented with light leaders.

Ian and good friend Brian had a crack at some whiting and snapper at the entrance to Warneet channel on Monday amd caught this snapper of 7 kilograms! They fished for whiting which they got ten! They also got 3 good flathead to 48 cm. The bait of choice for the snapper, was fresh caught whiting and flathead was cuttlefish!
