Report 16/6/16

It’s been a quieter week on the fishing front with anglers settling down into their winter routines. This weekend however, we have the Queen’s birthday, which hopefully sees a few more people out and about wetting a line. We have a bit of sun coming up over the weekend so hopefully that encourages some activity - and with northerly winds on Sunday it could be a great day for back beach fishing.

John Cahill and Lydia Low tripped down to the southern peninsula to do a bit of squid and whiting fishing. They were not disappointed collecting a very health bag of both. The guys fished off Sorrento.

Brendan and a mate from the Mitcham Angling Club fished WPB for some winter squid this week around Tyabb. The guys reported that the action happened pretty quickly around sunrise with some of the unworked (ie: dragger jigs) catching the majority of the squid. They caught a couple with hood lengths just shy of 40cm at 37cm & 35cm.
Down on the back beaches we have had more action this week with some schools of salmon around the 800g – 1kg range. Interestingly, pippies baits have been working well. We have a couple of northerlies coming up so keep your eye on the back beaches because it could be worth a look.
