Report 15/7/16

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Jul 15, 2016 10:59 pm

The week was pretty slow but then we had a few reports fire in at the last minute. The main focus being around the squid that are around at the moment but other captures included gummy shark and gars were notable. This weekend is looking pretty good (as far as recent weather goes) so hopefully there are a few out and about! Remember to shoot us a pic or two if you have a successful mission on the water!

First up, we had a couple more entries in our Supa Salmon Comp 2016 this week. Remember this comp only runs til the end of July and there is over $1100 in prizes. No entry fee, just weigh your fish at the shop.

Staff Jules Frank and good friend of the shop Nick Bailey from Viva Fishing Tackle, hit the water yesterday on Nick’s tinny. The boys had a great ‘gentlemen’s hours’ squid trip bagging a number with hoods around 38 – 42cm and taking home a full bag to please the family. The boys did drifts around Sorrento and Portsea.

Gummies seem to have been fishing fairly well this last couple of weeks. Although we don’t have pics of all the reports we have heard of guys taking fish land based in Westernport as well a quite a few captures along the channel. Fresh salmon and squid the key baits.

Got a fishing report you would like included in our weekly wrap-up? Email your pics and your story to

Ben Broomfield also fished for gummies this week off Rosebud. He managed this nice little eater while using squid bait on the Sth Channel. Cool and brisk but worth the trouble.

In other reports, although we don’t have any photos we heard that there have been big schools of garfish at Blairgowrie Marina where guys have been taking their bag (which is a lot of gars!). If you are interested in a few garies make sure you take plenty of ground burley, maggots or gents for bait, or failing that some nice silverfish.

Further up the bay, customer Dorian has still been taking a bunch of pinkies off Sandringham. The numbers of fish Dorian has been getting is sensational. Again, a great option if you want to go for a short drive and get some pan size pinkies.
