Report 7/10/16

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Oct 07, 2016 3:39 pm

We had some horrible weather this week but that didnt stop the fishing report flowing in. It seems as if the Snapper season has kicked off with a bang. Now that the Footy season is over we will see plenty more people on the water and there will be even more reports in the coming weeks with plenty of fish on offer. We have put out our Snapper specials catalogue out with some amazing specials including $9.50 Eden Block Pilchards. Check it out below and on our Facebook page where we have a great competition where we are giving away 10 free 2kg Eden pilchard blocks.

Port Phillip Bay
Staff member James was into the snapper again tonight. After work James took his kayak down to rickets point where he caught some more reds on the z man soft plastics. Red nut smacking the reds!!

Good customer Darren Brown fished this morning out from Beaumaris in his cruise craft and had no problems finding some nice Snapper. Darren said the fish went really well on first light where he and his crew caught 4 fish and were back at the ramp by 6.30 am.

Jeremy Murrell fished on Friday night around Port Melbourne and got himself into the 20 lb club with this beautiful Snapper. Jeremy was fishing the first two hours of the run in tide when his reel screamed off and after a huge battle he landed this beast of 10.5 kg. Pilchards were his bait of choice and im sure he will be back this week catching plenty more fish.

Aaron Habgood from Reds fishing adventures took his client Josh out for a Gummy fish last Thursday where they caught four Gummy sharks. The boys were fishing the bottom end of the bay and said they kept two and released two to fight another day. Using Fresh cut baits was the key to success on this day.

Jason Farugia from Magnet charters had a couple of charters last week in the bay. Fishing for calamari and king George whiting Jason got his clients onto some very nice fish and in some trying conditions at stages. Jason said that a variety of squid jigs were working but natural colours during the day were best and fresh squid strips were the go to bait for the whiting.

Handi Celik sent in this report of a fish which he took last Friday night when he was fishing land based on station pier. Hamdi was out for a number of hours before he got a bite but after a long wait and a huge fight he was rewarded with this awesome Snapper which weighed 10.5 kg. Great way to join the 20lb club Hamdi that is an excellent Land Based Snapper.

Western Port
The Rayner girls gave the western port squid a bit of a thumping on the weekend. Poppy wasn't so impressed by Mia's form dropping the squid every time they tried to get a picture. The Rayner team were fishing down the bottom end of Western port Bay and although they had to work hard for there squid they managed a great bag by the end of the day. The girls found the best success with the black evergreen jigs in size 3.5.

Daniel and his Daughter went for a trip to Western Port Bay on the weekend from Warragul in hope of there first Snapper for the season. Elly did not disappoint when she caught her personal best Snapper of 6.5 kg on a squid strip as bait. Daniel and Elly were fishing the top end of the bay on the run out tide.

Dean Giakoumakis went for his first Snapper fish for the season out from Corinella and was not dissapointed with the results. Dean was fishing with fresh squid as bait and had a ball catching his bag of reds whilst fishing with friends. Dean said that the run out tide was the most successful with the fish biting well for a couple of hours.

Customers Michael and Phil Andis fished off Flinders pier with plenty of other people on Saturday. The boys were using a variety of squid jigs but said the Yamashita white jigs was the most successful for the day. Michael managed to land this beauty of a squid which measured a 40cm hood. This is a great time of the year to chase the calamari and the next few weeks should see the biggest and best squid fishing of the year.
