Report 14/10/16

I heard a few people question this week whether Spring and Summer had passed us by and we’d gone back to the start of winter?! With the exception of today and tomorrow there has been some pretty ordinary weather this week which has certainly challenged the faithful fishos. The northerly winds haven’t helped our cause on the peninsula either for while they provide good in-close fishing up at the Melbourne end of the bay, they mean for terrible onshore conditions down here.

With that all said, it hasn’t been devoid of opportunities for fishing and we have seen the number of snapper being caught increasing week by week. There have definitely been some active schools around Mornington and the Mt Eliza side of the Mornington while the reports coming from Mt Martha have been a bit more inconsistent. There have have also been some good pinkies caught on the shallow rubble ground around some of the bays off Mornington.

Matt Cini from Reel Time Fishing Charters has been into them again this week both for his customers and in his down time with his partner. Matt has found the best action off Mt Eliza and Carrum.

Ben Broomfield had a bit of fun with the kids last weekend, catching a number of salmon around Tootgarook which he will no doubt turn into a jumbo gummy shark at some stage in the future.

Matt Luscombe and Ben Broomfield caught a nice gummy shark while fishing off Rosebud. The fish is a good eater size and will no doubt provide for a few good meals. As far as the moon goes this weekend is a pearler for gummy shark, with tonight being the pick of the bunch – should be flat seas and good fishing. I am certainly tempted for a quick session out on the channel to see if we can snag one.

Out of town, my mate John Cahill and his good woman Lyd Low, did a quick trip to Eildon in the wind last week. Continuing his magical cod mojo Johnny plucked the following fish from the dam. While not everyone loves chasing these elusive beasts, there is something special about their snake like skin.
