Report 24/11/16

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Nov 25, 2016 9:30 pm

This week we saw some great weather on the weekend and plenty of boats on the water chasing the Snapper. We have got lots of reports from the weekend and with some great weather coming from Sunday onwards we should see many more fish caught over the next week. There were also a lot of people out for a dive and getting a great bag of crayfish and even some Victorian Kingfish caught this week. Lots going on and endless options for those willing to look outside the square.

Good customer Brian had a session to remember on the weekend on the Snapper. Brian called into to tell us about his session on PPB off Mordialloc. Using our burley pellets before first light Brian said the fish went nuts and with only him on board it was very difficult to keep up with the screaming runs and trying to work out which rod was taking off in the dark. The fish that he kept weighed 6.1 kgs and 4.5 kgs whilst releasing plenty more.

Staff member James took out his Dad in their new boat Dragonfly to try and get his old man a few fish. James said on Sunday morning there was a crazy amount of boats out and after spending some time sounding around they found a few fish on the bottom. David flicked one of the new storm soft plastics over the side and it wasn't long before he caught this lovely Snapper of 4.5 kgs.

Western Port
Ben and Andy Doogan along with good mate Chris Earl (Softy) went in search of some opening season Crayfish this week. Out the front of the bay the boys found plenty of crayfish in perfect conditions. The Doogans said the water was very clear and there was plenty of bait and life on the way out so it looks very good for the upcoming kingfish season.

Lakes Entrance
Staff member Lee McDuffie and James had some amazing fishing off Lakes Entrance during the week. After looking for some snapper in the morning and struggling to get a fish they went for a look at one of the reefs Lee usually fishes in Summer. Much to their amazement they found a school of kingfish on the surface sunning themselves whilst in 14 degree water. After catching a number of fish on top water lures such as the Tacklehouse feed popper and rapala subwalks and losing a few bigger models to the reef they decided James should have a swim with them. James had his spear gun on the boat that he uses for PPB Flathead and small species but decided to have a go at the kings. It didn't take long for James to get a solid 12kg kingfish which he shot in the tail. Very exciting day and hopefully just the start of a great season.
