Report 9/12/16

Post by Nicole Penfold » Sun Dec 11, 2016 5:40 pm

The past week of fishing has seen the reports dominated by snapper and whiting with some great weather and consequent fishing. Summer is certainly here and its great to see some excellent fishing coming from both bays. The following month should also see the beginning of the king fish reports filtering through the shop and the estuary systems really starting to fire up. The Murray cod opening has seen many keen anglers entering the store in preparation for catching these awesome fish over the summer months.

Port Phillip Bay
Customer Ross swung by the shop and picked up a snapper pack before heading out on Monday. Ross fished with his daughter Mykaela who caught her very first snapper on a pilchard. The fish was 77cm and over 5kg. Ross reported that alot of burley was required to bring the fish on.

Young angler Logan fished with his dad off Altona on Tuesday afternoon where they caught a lovely bag of snapper. It's good to see the fish are biting right across the bay with many solid reports from the northern end. The afternoon bite has also proven to be very good this past week so if you can sneak out for a post-work fish you may well be rewarded.

Mark, Rich and Luke fished wide of Black Rock this morning from sunrise to 10am. The fish caught ranged in size from 35-58cm. The boys reported that they also released a number of fish as well. The pinkie fishing should really fire up over Summer and are a great sport when fishing light tackle.

Western Port
Dean and Andy fished the middle spit on Saturday morning, where the boys had a ripper of a session catching their bag of whiting, which included a dozen or so fish over 40cm.
