Report 19/10/17

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Oct 20, 2017 2:40 pm

What a time to be alive! This past week the weather has been sensationally warm, which will only lead to the water in the bays warming up. The shop has also been busy, in the past week we've had Aaron Habgood from Reds Fishing Adventures give an informative talk to a packed crowd covering all aspects of fishing in the bay as well as offshore.

Local Creeks
Fever team member Max fished in a local creek to catch this ripping Estuary Perch on top water in an after work session this week. Max reports that with the warm still nights that we have been experiencing lately, conditions have been perfect for catching these elusive fish that pull like steam trains once hooked.

Western Port
Ben Hillard caught his first Snapper for the season out of the top end this week, and what a beauty it is! With all of this warm sun hitting the water recently, the shallower waters of Western Port should really start to produce some more consistent Snapper sessions..Fingers crossed.

Nick fished around French Island using a variety of baits to catch this great bag of King George Whiting but reports that Mussels were definitely the stand out bait during what was a very finicky bite.

Port Phillip Bay
National Gone Fishing day incorporating VIC FISH KIDS was held at Mordialloc Pier on Saturday. It was a great event with over 1000 people in attendance. Rex Hunt entertained the crowds as ambassador for the new initiative VIC FISH KIDS while Sam from Masterchef cooked up a storm. It was the perfect weather and so good to see people getting into fishing!

Yianni Kallinikos went out and fished off of Ricketts point in the shallows looking for warmer water temperatures. He is pictured here with just one of the nice little Snapper he and his family managed to catch.

Captain Redbeard otherwise known as Aaron Habgood has jumped straight back into fishing after hosting the highly informative Snapper Talk Night here in store last week. He's been out on the Bay chasing a feed of Calamari and Whiting with his parents and taking advantage of the warmer weather that Melbourne has experienced this week.

Harry Kontos sure looks like a happy bloke, maybe the cracking Snapper he's seen holding here have something to do with it? These are 4 of the Reds caught in a quick flurry off of Mount Eliza earlier this week. Harry made great use of his sounder to find active fish and then present extra large Pilchards to them.

Mark Oram found this 7.5kg Snapper in the deeper water off Carrum recently. Mark fished in around 20m of water and was using a silver whiting for bait. It pays to have a variety of baits out in your spread rather than just the one type, quite often this allows you to key in on what the fish want to eat and can turn an average session into a cracking session.

Welshpool
Will Thompson from Always Angling in Traralgon was chasing whiting a few days ago at Welshpool and got more than he bargained for when this 8kg red smashed his squid strip on a black magic whiting snatcher. Needless to say Will had his hands full for a while before landing this cracker.

Portland
Simon Rinaldi of Red Hot Fishing Charters had a pearler of a day this week on the Jumbo Tuna. Pictured here are two of his clients, Johnny and Dave with their 'fish of a lifetime'. You couldn't wipe the smile off of their face if you tried!

Kevin Agius also had a magic day on the Portland Jumbos this week, he and his crew managed to land 3 Bluefin Tuna in one day! Not an easy feat. The guys caught at least one of their fish on the ever popular, Marlin Magic Baby Hard Head in Paris colour.

Lake Tyers
The Sandringham Anglers Club spent the weekend at Lake Tyers instead of chasing the reds on our bays. 16 Anglers fished and returned with some fantastic fish as seen in these photos. Here is Kevin Wilkinson holding his 54cm Flatty.

Andre Vidovic who took out the weekend with samples like these 2kg Poddy Mullet and his 76cm flatty which is swimming for another day.
