Report 7/12/17

Post by Nicole Penfold » Mon Dec 11, 2017 9:56 am

Some truly atrocious weather kept most anglers off the water for the majority of the last week with huge winds and rainfall across the state. However just prior to and after the storm saw some great snapper fishing locally in PPB from areas such as Mordialloc and Carrum. The fish have been going nuts post the heavy wind and rain with some great captures reported. Prior to the storm there were still some great whiting being caught out of Westernport.

Port Phillip Bay

Simon Rinaldi from Red Hot Fishing Charters has reported some awesome fishing for PPB snapper after the big blow and storms we had over the weekend. Simno has been whacking the fish since the storm subsided in both the morning and afternoon. There are still plenty of fish about and with some great weather this weekend now is the time to catch a lovely bag of snapper.

Aaron Habgood from Reds Fishing Adventures has been getting stuck into some lovely calamari and flathead fishing the southern end of PPB. Its good to see the wild weather hasn't disturbed the squid too much with Aaron catching his bag with relative ease.

Westernport

Staff member Mitch got out on Westernport solo this morning chasing Snapper and Whiting. Mitch got to good Snapper on the turn of the tide on sunrise and then turned his attention to Whiting. Mitch reports there was lots of moving involved but still managed some good fish. Fresh squid on both the Snapper and Whiting was most effective.

The boys from the shop have been getting stuck into more whiting this week fishing the middle spit. Pippies and squid have been the best baits and the fish have responded well to a lot of burley. These fish came from both shallow (5m) and deeper (12m) water.

Brad went out with his dad Allan and had a great night on friday out from stony point. 3 gummies a nice couta topped off with 10 whiting between 33 and 46 cm and 2 pinkies. A great mixed bag nice work Brad and Allen. We have has some solid reports from stony point fishing for all the above named species.

Albury

Sedgie has been fishing alot this past week and since cod opening he has caught plenty of Cod, Trout cod, and yellowbelly. Seji has been fishing with spinnerbaits and his new storm Mojo baitcaster.

FADS

More good news for Victorian fishers with the announcement of 5 FADs (Fish Aggregation Devices) off the coast of #Torquay. These will act as magnets for yellowtail kingfish which are booming off our coast - and even at Docklands in the centre of the Melbourne. The FADs are destined for locations nearby the existing purpose-built artificial reef aka ‘Rev’s Reef’. At this stage they will be deployed next week.
