Report 11/1/18

Post by Nicole Penfold » Mon Jan 15, 2018 9:14 am

Following on in the same fashion as last weeks report, the fishing over the past 7 days has been nothing short of sensational. The whiting fish continues to dominate the reports locally with PPB and WP producing some great catches. The entrance to PPB know as "The rip," has certainly turned it on over the past week with heaps of kings getting caught ranging in size from just legal to fish well over 1m. The south west coast has produced some great shark fishing as well as the odd school bluefin still getting caught. There has also been some great deep dropping and offshore fishing from places such as Warrnambool, Port Fairy and Portland. However the talk of the town has definitely been the south east coast with some phenomenal game fishing being had from Eden. The Marlin season is well and truly underway with a lot of our customers sharing some great success stories of multiple fish being caught from their trips.

Port Phillip Bay

Amelia headed out from Portarlington on Wednesday with her father for their first trip for 2018. The crew managed a bag of whiting taken in under 2hrs and then a few squid to finish off. Mussel was the preferred bait.

Westernport

Check out this thumping whiting caught by Natalie Powell fishing out of Westernport. The crew caught some great fish to 45cm fishing in deep water off cowes. We have had countless reports of excellent whiting fishing coming out of Westernport of late. Now is the definitely the time to be chasing these big whiting which seem to be around in good numbers.

Jack went back to western port a couple of days ago after fishing port Phillip for the past 6 wks. He found no shortage of fish with a great session just out of Hastings on dawn with an early run out tide. There has been excellent numbers of pinkie snapper getting about in WPB couple with some great whiting reports.

Offshore

The guys from FJG burley had a quick afternoon run out yesterday to test some Berley. The crew nailed this good eater. It was Peter Mazzones first Mako so happy days. Berley worked a treat. Never weighed the fish but est 70kg. We have plenty of burley in stock from 2kg, 5kg and 10kg and with some great mako reports starting to filter through now is the time to get out there and have a crack.

The shipwreck coast fishing challenge was held down the south west coast and there was some great fish weighed in over the course of the competition. Included in the catches were some great sized gummy and mako sharks as well as several tuna. There is certainly plenty of options if you're planning a trip down this way.
