Report 22/10/18

Offshore conditions set to improve!

With conditions being a bit lumpy offshore it was only the bigger boat that made their way out earlier in the week, condition did improve a little over the weekend for those brave enough to go out. Most anglers stayed close with some nice fish taken from the close reefs. Snapper were plentiful on the Gneerings with most fish 2-3kg. The good old pilchard fished through a good burley trail seemed to be working along with scented soft plastics like the Gulp Nuclear Chicken. Old Woman Island has also been fishing well with plenty of sweet lip and squire on offer, micro jigs on light gear is great fun here and due to the depth of the water 15-20 grams will get the job done, the Jackson Slow Fall and The Blue Blue Sea Rides are both perfect for the job. For the bigger boats Murphy’s and Caloundra 12 mile were worth a look with nice jew, cobia and tuna on offer. Fishing floaters through burley saw plenty of anglers hook up. This coming week we should see the swells drop and hopefully the wind play the game giving use a chance to get out.

In the Maroochy River; even though the water is still quite dirty there has been plenty on offer. Grunter bream have been plentiful with good fish taken all the way up to Bli Bli Bridge, prawns and small fish baits have been ideal. Darker coloured soft plastics have also claimed some good fish. Flathead have also been in good numbers with some good fish taken on the dirtier run out tide, slow rolled plastics in a fish or prawn profile cast upstream and worked back on the tide has been the most successful method. A good tip at the moment is to just slow roll your plastics and not hop them, this will keep the lure on the bottom a little easier for those big lizards to see. Whiting have been in great numbers around Chambers Islands, Black Banks, Cotton Tree, and the river mouth. Freshly pumped yabbies have been the best baits with worms and peeled prawns a close second. Fishing the run in tide has been when all the action has been happening. Mangrove jacks have also been feeding hard with a lot of fish taken around structure, plenty of good fish have been taken in the Twin Waters and Maroochy Waters areas. Bright red is the colour of choice for anglers in both hard bodies and soft plastics.

On the Beaches the big swells have carved up some good gutters over the past couple of weeks, trevally, bream and larger dart have been taken around the top of the tides. Prawns, whitebait and smaller pilchards have been the ideal baits. There is plenty of sweep on the beaches so you will have to upsize those sinkers a little. The night anglers have also had some good success with tailor and jew taken on the early morning tides, mullet and bonito fillet has claimed plenty of fish.

The Twin Waters Residents Association along with Davo’s Northshore Bait & Tackle and the Marcoola Community Bank would like to invite all Anglers to our social fishing competition! Before you start fishing, you must collect your token from Davo’s North Shore Bait & Tackle at Marcoola from 12 midday Friday 26th of October. Once you’ve collected your token you can start fishing and the competition finishes on Sunday 28th of October at 10am sharp. All tokens must be returned to the Davo’s Northshore Store by 11am - even if you haven’t caught a fish.
