With the windy conditions over the last week it has been a little tough to get offshore, for those that got outside the fishing has been great. To the south Caloundra wide has been really firing with some stonker snapper taken, some anglers got to their bag limits fairly easily, the Ultimate Squid from River2sea has been a real winner with angler reporting some of their best catches on these realistic squid profiles. The Gneerings has been another hot spot for good reef fish with snapper, parrot maori cod and sweetlip all hitting the decks, pilchard and slimy mackerel baits fish through a solid burley trail has been the way to go here. Up on Coolum reef tuna have been the talk of the town with plenty of solid Mack tuna to play with, long tails and even spanish mackerel have also been reported. Plenty of birds have been giving away the location of the fish so keep your eyes peeled for diving birds. There have been some good sized schools so working the edges of the schools with slugs and micro jigs has been the way to go, also let those lure sink because if there is mackerel around they will be feeding underneath.

The river has been a hive of activity with the start of the School Holidays, plenty of visitors and locals have been fishing the river with some great reports coming in. Starting upriver; Dunethin Rock has seen plenty of activity with good trevally taken at the top of the tide. The Deeper holes near the tram bridge has been another hot spot with trevally jew and jacks all accounted for, big vibes like the Samaki thumper tails and the new Swim baits from Zerek have been dynamite. Down toward Bli Bli Island the flathead have been in great numbers with fish over the legal limit of 75cm being reported pretty regularly. Soft plastic have been perfect for the job with many fish taken on the Keitech Easy Shiners in the 3 and 4 inch sizes. For the bait anglers small pilchards on ganged hook worked on a slow retrieve have also caught some great fish. Oyster Bank Rd has been strong for bream, trevally and smaller cod, prawns and whitebait have been great here. Chambers Island, Black Banks, Picnic Point and Cottontree have fished well for whiting with worms, yabbies and peeled prawn accounting for some nice elbow slappers.

On the beach the windy condition and big tides have made for trying conditions, the best fish has come in the morning with the smaller tide and lighter breezes. There are still some nice tailor around with most fish taken around the river mouth and up toward Yaroomba rocks. Dart are again in big numbers with the bigger fish at the top of the tide. Whiting numbers are increasing with the best fish coming from up near Stummers Creek and Peregian Beach, again live worm and pippies have been the gun baits.
