Weekly Report 4 Dec 11

The estuaries have been quiet but a few anglers have taken home some flathead and bucket loads of whiting. It can be difficult at times to find the bigger fish with all the pickers around but patience is the key and using the art of moving around until you find them also works well. The herring are plentiful around the bridges and pontoons and they make great bait for bream and trevally. It can however be tough finding a good size fish around anywhere at the moment but things will soon change. Not too much has been caught off the Boardwalk in Caloundra lately apart from a couple of nice bream a couple of weeks ago. The bigger flathead are certainly keeping their heads down and without their favorite bait (large pike) it might remain difficult to entice them onto the hook.

Offshore is very quiet but my prediction is once these south easterlies blow out that should start to bring on the spotty mackerel and kick our usual summer season off with a bang. It always seems to be that around mid December things start to look up and let's face it, it won't take much of a change to start looking up. This is a great time to be fixing all those little things on the boat or on your gear and get ready for the mackerel which are just around the corner. Have Fun!
