Weekly Report 12 Dec 11

Post by Brad » Mon Dec 12, 2011 9:34 am

A bit of activity offshore this week with 5-9kg yellow fin tuna smashing baits and hardbodied lures. The tuna where around WIde Caloundra right through to the Gneerings giving plenty of anglers the opportunity to snag a couple. There have also been plenty of schools of smaller skip jacks around. They are hard to catch but the best method is a small 10-15g chrome slug. The smaller the better with these little fellows but if you manage some keep them stored for bait on you next outing. Pearl perch around Wide Caloundra but no real size to them with most being just legal length. There have been a couple of reports of spotty mackerel being caught at Caloundra 5 mile but they are not around in any numbers having checked this morning for them. Still some opportunities this week for an outside fish but take it easy and remember safety first on all occassions.

The estauries have plenty of whiting around and smaller bream. Flathead are still there and taking live herrings around the structures like pontoons and jetties. The trevally and tarpon should start to come on once the fresh is clear from the rivers in fact this rain will kick start our entire summer run. There have been a couple of mangrove jack caught around McKenzies bridge and in Currimundi Lake and with the water colour the way it is there is a fair chance of some real snorkers being taken this week. Have Fun!

Bill is selling his Trinidad 30. It is the gold model and is in really good nick. It also has 250m of 50lb braid on it with 40lb mono backing. The Trinidad is an excellent reel and has a high speed retrive 6.2:1 and he has the original box. It has been only used 4 times and has sat in the box for 2 years now not being used. If you are interested just email me at fishingcaloundra@yahoo.com.au and I will pass it on to Bill. The price is $440.00 and that is for pick up only or you will have to organise postage.
