Weekly Report 9 Jan 12

The full moon phase has really fired up the reef fishing around the Sunshine Coast but the bigger pelagics are few and far between. The good news is that there are still a few cobia around and plenty of whaler sharks waiting to nail your catches. Snapper, pearl perch and moses perch are all the reef targets at the moment and most can be taken on all the known reefs including in close on the Gneerings Shoal. There are small spanish mackerel around but not in any numbers so you will work hard to find them. Pelnty of bait around the traps and this last weekend I caught some of the biggest yakkas I have every seen which went on to be used to catch some nice cobia. Good size yellow tail kingfish were also taken on the weekend along with sweetlip and pig fish at the Barwon Banks.

The estuaries are full of holiday fishermen and a few have landed some nice flathead and bream to this moment. Whiting are still available but for your best chance blood worms or small yabbies should be used as bait. The Boardwalk is normally packed during the day but the best time to fish the area is without doubt early mornings. Use live herring or pike, if you can get them for be results. The wind is going to be the problem for all anglers this week particularly offshore but you will find a spot somewhere in the estuaries to shelter from these strong northerlies. Have Fun!
