Weekly Reports 12 Feb 12

Post by Brad » Mon Feb 13, 2012 7:26 am

Reports this week have come back with a familiar cry that all is slow offshore. Over the past week however some quality reef species have been taken but there has been a real lack of pelagics around the place. Cod are still a good target around the Inner Reef systems along with tuskfish, sweetlip and red throat emperor. The pearl perch are sometimes plentiful but they are consistently just under size by 3-5cm. Murphy's has seen a run of small moses perch and a heap of smaller bait fish that pick away at your bait. The Gneerings are still a good location to pick up one or two qulaity snapper along with other mentioned species. Offshore can expect yet another strong southerly blow from Tuesday onwards taking out the opporunity to get offshore to have a good crack at them.

The estuaries are still the place to fish with some real quality flathead and whiting taking biats and lures. The poppers are smashing whiting around Twin Waters and on the sand flats around the Powerboat Club in Caloundra. The bream are around but the majority are just legal or under in size so they need a few months to fatten up. Big tailor have been taking chunks of gar or herring around the Military Jetty area and you can still see them boiling up the surface whilst smashing bait schools throughout the passage. There have been reported catches of trevally but I have not heard of many queenfish being taken this season and that would be because of the colour of the water on a lot of occassions. An interesting week ahead with a mid moon phase and strong southerlies. Maybe its maintenence week again! Have Fun!
