Weekly Report 27 Feb 12

Post by Brad » Mon Feb 27, 2012 7:29 am

The fishing front is still fairly bad with rough weather. high seas and wind making the offshore areas unaccessable in smaller trailor boats. The seas will settle towards the end of the week and the winds will change out of the east and north making reef fishing pretty tough around the Sunshine Coast. Hopefully there will be a few bait school around being smashed up by tuna or mackerel that can turn a poor trip into a great one. If possible this week concentrate on fishing the change of the tides in the early mornings and around dusk. The tides will be low at that stage but there will still be a chance of some fish. The best sheltered areas this week will be around Old Women Island for those that don't like the wind and there is every chance of a mackerel, tuna or reefy around there.

THe estuaries still have flathead, bream and trevally with some good whiting being taken around Happy Valley on the low tide. There are some monster flathead in that area but it takes skill to fish for them because of the number of rock outcrops that are both hidden and visable. You will need to keep your wits about you and watch the movement of the line carefully. The water is still to fresh in the canals but here have been a couple of reports of mangrove jack taking lures around McKenzies and Mooloolah River areas. Search and fish will be the order of the week so good luck and have fun!
