Weekly Report 5 Mar 12

A small turn of events this weekend with two great days for fishing that yielded 2 nice spanish mackerel to 9kg and a truck load of sweetlip, red throat emperor and moses perch out at the Barwon Banks. Friday was by far the better pick to head out and a few blokes I know pulled an all nighter with mixed results but they still achieved some quality fish. One mahi mahi was caught around the three pinnacles just south of the three sisters mid banks and then on came the spaniards that were taken on floated baits under a balloon. The inner reefs had some smaller squire, perch and tuskfish around them making them a worthwhile trip. Currimundi Reef through to Rapers or south to Bray's Rock provided anglers with options towards the pelagics and the schools of tuna that were waiting to hook up.

The estauaries have bream, and bucket loads of quality whiting right though the passage system and beyond. Of course with all this wet weather the crab pots should be out and bringing home the bacon right about now for you. The mudcrabs are really kicking on so set you pots and reap the rewards. The Happy Valley area still has good whiting in the shallow surf or walk around a little to fish the deeper channel where you could catch some monster predatory flathead that call this area their home. Once again though landing them is no picinic because of the hidden rock formations around. Tarwhine and mangrove jack can be caught around the pylons of the Boardwalk and along the front of the Bulcock Beach. Again, watch the rocks. Have Fun!
