Weekly Report 11 Mar 12

Post by Brad » Sun Mar 11, 2012 11:09 pm

A great last couple of days with terrific offshore opportunites to be enjoyed by everyone. The sunburn was also a factor which was pleasing too see after a tame summer. Friday and Saturday mornings where the near perfect conditions that we all love to get offshore and try our luck and boy did a heap of us do that. Most boat ramps were full by 7am and anglers where struggling to get a park close to that area. We got out around 6.45am and straight in to the tuna schools. Small mack tuna were working small white baits into balls and attacking them hard. I used a small 20g chrome slug and it was hit everytime it was cast. On a number of occassions we had double hookups running everywhere. We tried for some reefies but found the bottom like a desert and then had a crack at plastics but to no avail. So back to the tuna and a great morning fighting them on light gear and we got some terrfic bait for later in the season.

The area around Noosa bar heading south down Sunshine Reef went off through the week with spotties and an occassional spaniard being taken. The birds were working hard in the mornings picking off the stragglers within the bait rings. The best mackerel for the session went around 14kg so they were worth the run. Next week looks a little rough to be out on the deep blue so be careful and plan early morning trips but be in close once those winds blow up. Fish for trevally and bream around La Balsa park area and off the rock walls in Mooloolaba. Thre are plenty of mud crabs in the rivers at the moment so have your pots marked and ready to go. Whiting still around the Pumicestone Passage and with the Maroochy waters. The area further south near Coochin has been producing the bigger whiting on blood worms and yabbies so get some for best results. All in all a good weekend coming up next week so plan your trip and fuel up the boat because it will soon be on. Have Fun!
