Weekly Report 3 Jun 12

Post by Brad » Sun Jun 03, 2012 8:45 am

Winter has started with some fairly average weather on our patch of turf. Big seas and winds are predicted for the coming week offshore and with the added extra of the full moon it will make it tough to fish a lot of the estuary areas. Smart fishing is the order of the week which means you will need to find the spots that are better protected and that again mean heading out to a freshwater dam to tackle some bass or work around the Maroochy and Noosa rivers. The beaches will cop an absolute pounding so best leave them for another week or more but all is not lost as the crabs will certainly be on the move. Gar are up around La Balsa park near the entrance of the Mooloolaba bar along with a few trevally and stacks of smaller bream.

The chopper tailor have been making their mark busting up small schools of whitebait and herring around the pylons at MCKenzies but overall it has really died down in that area. Currimundi lake at the moment is a fizzer unless you have the kids and want to have some fun with the smaller whiting. Good news is that the mulloway are within the deeper areas around the Boardwalk and night time is the only time to truely nail the bigger species. I have been casting the jew lure to no effect at this point so it will be back to worms or big prawn in a week or so. The back reaches of Bells and Coochin creeks may be worth a look for whiting and bream but watch the weather. Al Hinge managed to nail the 9,5kg snapper recently just to show you that there are fish waiting for you. Ark up the fire and clean you fishing gear would probably be the best advice for now! Have Fun!
