Weekly Report 17 Jun 12

Finally a long break in the weather and what a run at the fish we have enjoyed. Offshore there has been areal spark in the number of fish and in the quality particularly snapper. A recent trip to out wide produced some big snapper over 8kg and trag jew. There are tuskfish and pearlies also hitting the bait along with hussar and moses perch around Murphy's and the Outer Gneerings. Amberjack and some red emperor have been reported out wider amongst the Barwon Banks reefs. Reports of tailor off the beaches around Wurtulla right through to Point Cartwright and beyond. Old Womens Island is the target for those that don't want to get out to far with plenty of mixed reefies around during the evening. Caloundra Wide was packed on Friday night and plenty of strong reports of good catches have filtered through. Cobia around the channel markers near Bray's Rock and snapper within casting range of Currimundi Reef as well. The 5, 7 & 12 mile reefs will really come into their own over the coming days so plan a trip out wide quickly.

The estuaries have plenty of bream and drummer are back at the Boardwalk in Caloundra. Soon you will not be able to get a spot near it so have some fun while it lasts. Flathead around the top end of the Caloundra Bar and mulloway in the deep holes along the front of the Pumistone Passage. Work these areas in the wee hours of the morning or late in the evening. A tide change around 9pm is just what you want to target the mulloway. Work the area around Military Jetty for bream and happy moments and there are still some elbow slapping whiting around the weed beds south of Bell's Creek, Yabbies are the gun bait at the moment. Small trevally and chopper tailor are fun on the light gear and you can encounter them all around the shallow areas from Military Jetty around to the Pelican Waters bridge and to the Power Boat Club.
