Weekly Report 25 Jul 12

Finally a midweek opportunity to get out amongst the fish and it wasn't as bad as anticipated. Some cracker snapper around the Gneerings at the moment in fact one fish came in at 10kg from a bloke who decided that he couldn't wait for the weather to change. In close is still ok, so a trip out to Old Womens Island staying in close will work on the southerlies or westerly winds. Brays Rock out from Caloundra has its share of good sweetlip and snapper along with Currimundi and if you wnat to tackle bigger seas the area around the Mooloolaba Blinker and Murphy's will be good for fish. Whilst the wind is up, travelling out any further is risky and not worth the banging up.

The estuaries are still a little muddy in parts and that has certainly effected the areas around McKenzies and the canals. Currimundi Lake is rated absolutely dead outside of under sized bream and will probably stay that way for some time now. The Boardwalk in Caloundra has bream and some hefty flathead around but it can be a long time between drinks around there at the moment. Over the coming days you will probably need to nail your shoes into the boards to stay out of the water. Look to work the area around Gemini Towers for bream and flathead along with Military Jetty and the boat club pontoon. Pelican Bridge is quiet unless you choose to fish a changing tide in the wee hours of the morning and only then will you have a chance at some mulloway or bigger bream. Small choppers are about but the wind howling up the passage makes it difficult to see them breaking the surface as it keeps the bait schools below. Not all bad news though this week and there will be some opportunites later to get your feet wet. Have Fun!
