Weekly Report 20 Aug 12

Post by Brad » Mon Aug 20, 2012 6:49 pm

A good start to the week with some fine weather to be enjoyed by fishermen. Light winds around Tuesday and Wednesday will be ideal for targeting snapper and pearl perch around Wide Caloundra and the Barwon Banks. Plenty of smaller reef varieities inside around Murphy,s, the Gneerings and the Caloundra 12 mile. My money will be on a wide trip this week into the 100m zone for thumping big amberjack and pearlies with the possibility of a kingie or two and some big snapper. Bray's Rock has been home to some nice snapper around the 3-4kg mark and a few qulaity tuskfish. Not much happening around Old Women's Island or the rocky outcrops around it but its a different kettle of fish around Sunshine Reef with trevally, tuskfish and snapper are all being caught along the stretch of reef. In closer mulloway are working along the walls at Mooloolaba and still a few dart and tailor along the Wurtulla Strip of beach's. You will work hard after Wednesday to fish the surf so get into it while you can.

The Pumistone Passage has bream and flathead all over it and the soft plastics are certainly king at the moment. Blades are ok on the slow side of the tide and need to be kept away from the bad snag areas along the Boardwalk strip. Fishing the pontoons and jetties is always a better option because the water and bottom is much more forgiving. The Cod Hole has been really slow lately perhaps it is because of the traffic it incurs all day long and the fish just don't seem to be coming back; time will tell on that one. Trevally around the bridge and the coastguard pontoon with whiting and flathead all along the Happy Valley area. Good week for fishing so have fun!
