Weekly Report 8 Oct 12

Post by Brad » Mon Oct 08, 2012 7:48 pm

Fairly average week weather wise across the Sunshine Coast recently but that does not mean there have been no fish. Offshore it has been very light on and with us heading into our normally run of Northerly winds throughout October and November we can expect a lot more of this. Remember November is traditionally a transitional month on our reefs which means that it is the time between the winter run of fish and the change over to the summer varieties. The fishing can be very slow with some frustrating weeks with few fish but being out on the water can be a bonus on some days. When the tuna move in and the school mackerel then its all on the go again and that generally can occur early to late November or into December.

The estuaries have been hard but there are still bream and whiting around the traps. The Maroochy River has bream to around 700grms which are falling to prawns and very small soft platics. Higher up in the estuaries there are always big catfish to catch if you need a terrific fight on light line. We fished on Sunday morning and landed two cracker fish and what a fight they put up. Bream, mullet and gar were around in numbers so the rivers are very healthy at the moment. Flathead and trevally are around the Boardwalk in Caloundra and the beaches are worth a shot for bream an and dart. Some mulloway still around the deeper holes on the tide change late into the evenings and bigger flathead can be taken in the early hours of the morning. Work the deeper areas around the river mouths this week on the tide changes for best results. Should be interesting to see what happens. Have Fun!
