Weekly Report 22 Oct 12

Post by Brad » Mon Oct 22, 2012 12:31 pm

The weather will certain make some fishermen scream this week as conditions are set to get far worse before they even look like offering up a chance to put the boat in the water. So offshore is a write off and by all counts it has been fairly hard going even during the recent moon phase. So the estuaries and the dams are really the only options that remain and things are looking good on these fronts. Flathead have been around in numbers throughout the Pumistone Passage and the Maroochy River system along with quality trevally and mulloway. The whiting are still being caught on early morning poppers along the shallow front of the passage and around Twin Waters leading right through to the mouth of the river.

The many pontoons and jetties along the waterways have bream and smaller species that are taking small wrigglers and the smaller varieites of hard bodied lures. It is best to get your fishing out of the way before the middle of the day as the fishing just shuts right down. Work the Boardwalk area around Caloundra in the wee hours of the morning and if you are lucky enough to get a corresponding tide all the better. You can expect to catch some big trevally if conditions are right not too mention tailor, tarwhine and a stack of other species. Fresh bait like yabbies and herring are always the favorites to ensure a good catch.

The beaches will be out because of the high winds and large seas so look to work the sheltered areas of the canals or back waters that are protected for best results. Fish in the cooler part of the day and stay away from traffic to give yourselves the best opportunities. If you can manage a couple of days off head up to Lake Monduran for some sensational barra fishing. Have Fun!
